As an independent, boutique bank, trust and other financial services provider, The Equity Group designs custom made products and services to meet specific needs of high-net-worth individuals, families and institutional clients both internationally and in The Bahamas. The breadth of our multi-jurisdictional group of companies and affiliates provides us with the flexibility to devise and establish entities and relationships not only in The Bahamas but elsewhere if this in the best interest of a client.

Historical Background

Experta Trust Company (Bahamas) Limited, the forerunner to Equity, established a physical presence in 2003, with Gilbert D. Cassar, who had previously served as a director, assuming the role of Managing Director. Over the next five years, he added Ivylyn Cassar, Kim Thompson and Dillon Dean to the executive team. In 2010, this executive management team executed a 90% management buyout of Experta and rebranded the company as Equity.

Equity Group International (EGI) was established in 2010 to transfer 90% ownership, resulting in EGI becoming the majority shareholder entity of Equity Bank. Mr. Cassar (who has been deceased since 2021) retired in 2016, and Ivylyn Cassar took on the Chairmanship of Equity, EGI and Equity Bank. In 2018, EGI established Equity Investment Funds Limited and In 2021 EGI established Equity Trust Bahamas Limited.

Equity Today

Since its establishment in, Equity Bank Bahamas Limited and its affiliates have continued to evolve the broadest range of banking, investment funds, trusts, foundations, corporate products and related services.

Today Equity employs 70 staff in its Nassau headquarters.

Reputation, Networking and Relations with Regulators

The Shareholders, Board of Directors and Senior Management of Equity Group have collectively enjoyed excellent relations with Regulators, the Bahamas Financial Services Board, the Association of International Banks and Trust Companies, the financial community and the legal and accounting profession in The Bahamas. At various times, several members of the Board of Directors served as Directors of the Bahamas Financial Services Board and the Association of International Banks and Trust Companies.
